Five Volunteer Opportunities for Teens in Orlando this Summer

Are Linksters really so self-absorbed and narcissistic, or are they actually looking for volunteer opportunities while no one is watching?  The answer might surprise you.

According to the Millennial Impact Report, today’s teens and young adults are involved, engaged and committed.  84% made a charitable donation in 2014, the year of the study, and 70% spent at least an hour volunteering for a cause that they care about. They give their time and their talents in all kinds of surprising and creative ways, and go out of their way to support the causes they’re passionate about.

So, if you’re a teen looking to volunteer, now’s the time! With summer almost here, there are plenty of awesome opportunities for you to volunteer in the Orlando area, from taking care of animals, to protecting the environment, to feeding the hungry, and so much more!  Here are five ways that you can give back to your community this season, and earn valuable volunteer experience as well:

  1. Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando

  • What they do: Prevent relinquishment of animals to shelters and care for homeless dogs and cats.
  • How you can help: Exercise, socialize, and provide enrichment activities for dogs and cats.

 

  1. Green Up Orlando

  • What they do: Encourage citizens and groups to plant trees and shrubs, beautify their neighborhoods, and raise public awareness.
  • How you can help: Design gardens, plant, and help with education and park operations.

 

  1. Second Harvest Food Bank

  • What they do: Collect, store, and distribute donated food to the hungry.
  • How you can help: Help store, sort, and/or distribute food.

 

  1. Orange County Library System

  • What they do: Provide the community with collections, staff services, and facilities.
  • How you can help: Help with daily activities and events.

 

  1. Orlando Science Center 

  • What they do: Encourages learning a fun way, inspire curiousity and exploration.
  • How you can help: Apply to join the Youth Event & Exhibit Hall Team: greet visitors, facilitate educational games and activities, and/or serve as junior counselors in the camp program.
