The Woodruff Arts Center opened in 1968 as the Memorial Arts Center. This project was an authentic milestone in Atlanta history, simultaneously remembering arts patrons who died in the 1962 Orly plane crash in Paris, France and continuing their legacy by assuring a central place for the arts in Atlanta.
Visionary leaders made it happen–men and women who realized what the arts could do for their community. Their commitment lives on in the contributions of today’s business and civic leaders who step forward as volunteers to guide The Woodruff.
For over five decades, The Woodruff Arts Center has brought great art of all eras and culture to Atlanta. Drawing from the regional and cultural influences around us, The Woodruff has given fresh and lively art back to the community and world, offering a key role in making Atlanta a global center for education, tourism and inspiration.
