Jake and Max Klein, the teen founders of Kids That Do Good, received the honor of being asked to present the initiatives of their non-profit organization that helps kids, teens, and families find volunteer opportunities at the National Commission for Military, National, and Public Service.

While visiting the nation’s capital, Jake and Max had the opportunity to meet with various government officials, including New Jersey Senator Cory Booker and New Jersey Congressman Bill Pascrell.

“We met Senator Booker briefly once before; he remembered us by name and knew all about KTDG,” said Jake. “It was amazing!” The senator told Jake and Max to keep him updated on the organization’s progress and to come visit again next time they’re in DC.

New Jersey Representative Bill Pascrell, Jr. seemed genuinely excited to hear all about Kids That Do Good, how Jake and Max started it, and how it’s grown. “He told us invaluable stories about his life in public service and offered us a lot of advice,” said Max.  “He was so personable, and he even arranged a private guided tour of the Capitol Building for us!”

For their presentation at the National Commission on Military, National, and Public Service, Max and Jake shared what drives them to want to serve others and how they engage young people through Kids That Do Good. They were inspired to be in a room of distinguished commissioners with such vast backgrounds and exemplary careers in service to our country.

It has been Jake and Max’s birthday tradition to pick a charity to support each year. For their sixteenth birthdays, they asked their family and friends to donate to Commissioner Kilgannon’s work at the Freedom Alliance, an organization that supports the US military troops. Jake and Max were happy to surprise Commissioner Kilgannon during their presentation by informing him of their donation to support 32 military care packages.

The surprise was quickly turned on Max and Jake, when the group surprised them with a cake and Chairman Dr. Joseph Heck presented them with the Gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award, which included a certificate, gold medal, and a letter from the President of the United States!

“We can’t thank the commission enough for nominating us and presenting us with this distinguished award,” said Jake. “My brother and I will continue to focus on helping make a difference and getting others to do so as well.”
