Five Volunteer Opportunities for Teens in Miami this Summer

Are Linksters actually that narcissistic and self-absorbed? It’s easy to say yes at first glance, though, maybe that’s not the case. Maybe teens are actually looking for volunteer opportunities while no one is watching.

In fact, according to the Millennial Impact Report, today’s teens and young adults are involved, engaged and committed.  84% made a charitable donation in 2014, the year of the study, and 70% spent at least an hour volunteering for a cause that they care about. They give their time and their talents in all kinds of surprising and creative ways, and go out of their way to support the causes they’re passionate about.

So, if you’re a teen looking to “selfishly” volunteer, now’s the time! With summer almost here, there are plenty of awesome opportunities for you to volunteer in the Miami area, from working with kids, to protecting animals, to feeding the hungry, and so much more!  Here are five ways that you can give back to your community this season, and earn valuable volunteer experience as well:

  1. Victim Response Inc.

  • What they do: Shelter for victims of domestic violence and assault.
  • How you can help: Clerical tasks, community education, outreach support, crisis intervention and our children’s program, Purple Moose Camp.

  1. Camillus House and Health

  • What they do: Offer services to the poor and homeless.
  • How you can help: Host food drives, teach a skill, assist staff with clerical assignments, and more.

  1. The Cat Network

  • What they do: Get out the word of the importance of spaying/neutering and finding homes for adoptable cats and kittens.
  • How you can help: Feed and clean the cats and kittens.

  1. Nicklaus Children’s Hospital

  • What they do: Pediatric medical care from birth through adolescence.

  1. Joshua’s Heart
